Travelling the world

I had the pleasure of working with artists who live internationally or have travelled to the many corners of the world. Restoring found its place by emerging like a soft petal flower in the earliest publications of Dwelling Magazine, anchoring itself as the heart of Dwelling — a home for creatives. I want to share with you today the two creatives who welcome you into issue five.

Lylah Ellao

Lylah Ellao arrived on this planet blessed with confidence and talent, self-publishing her first children’s picture book at 18 years old, and now travelling through Europe one country at a time.

Lylah and I met at the Murray Art Museum Albury (MAMA), both starting our new jobs on the same day. Her kindness and passion to explore the world through a creative lens filled a bucket load of inspiration inside me, and over the coming months, I was exploring the DwellingZine project, she was flying in and out of Australia, but we never got the chance to create a zine together (we totally still should, though). When I decided issue five would be going ahead, I knew that I needed her voice.

Lylah’s introduction to the Restoring section is fruitful, calming, and a beautiful journal entry that says all that you need to know about Lylah herself. She shared multiple drawings to support her written work, but I only chose one, so I thought I’d share a couple more here.

Each word is a form of ‘the Yamas and Niyamas, principles of nature by which every living being should live their life and make art’. They are words that Lylah learnt at her Ashtanga yoga teacher training in Indonesia.

Also, shout out to Lylah for being the first subscriber to The Dwelling Post!

Jennyfer Marie

To be quite frank, I don’t remember how I came across Jennyfer Marie in the trenches of social media. It could have been Instagram, it could have been TikTok. But either way, her fiery passion struck me, and I instantly wanted to connect with her.

She has achieved so much, and has been a shining light for the art community all over the world. As a creative event planner and organiser, she has carefully executed her own sketchbook club, art market and now the upcoming creative space: The Artful Exchange.

You can find her beautiful designs throughout the whole of issue five, and most importantly on the front cover! Introducing each chapter, her art speaks to the creative energy I hope to give to my community. Her love for making art and making meaningful events has transcended the digital world and made it all the way to the South of Australia, which is how the Creator’s Catch Up was born.

Support Jennyfer Marie on her next endeavour in supporting the creative community in Orlando, Florida: The Artful Exchange.

Rewilding, and more

I will be talking more on international exchanges in future blog posts, including contributions in the Rewilding topic. If you would like to see what these artists and writers contributed in issue five, head to the Dwelling shop to purchase your own copy!

Creator’s Catch Up will be returning January 25th, 2025! Stay tuned for the summer season announcement. In the mean time, I hope to see you at the last catch up of the year, November 23rd, 2024, at the Albury Wodonga Farmer’s Market.

I can’t believe we’re nearing the end of another year.

Thank you for being here 💛
