A gift for you!

KALICO

I met Alison online through Instagram whilst scrolling through my feed, and I instantly resonated with her brand and her style. There was a certain kind of passion behind her content and the products she created.

KALICO is a clothing apparel completely handmade and produced by Alison, and the black, white, gothic aesthetic is the core of her style. I love it. And even though it’s the complete opposite of Dwelling’s bright, pastel and floral aesthetic, I wanted to share her story.

She describes Rewilding as ‘the process of giving something an entirely new life’, it’s taking a photograph or a design and turning it into an intricate and wearable piece of art.

Alison takes collage, graphic design and textiles to a whole new level. Her commitment to her brand is her biggest stand out, and the ability to upcycle, rewild, and create something entirely new and beautiful is what encapsulates my vision for the Rewilding topic.

You can read Alison’s interview on page 25-26 in issue five.

Extra knick-knacks

I had a strong urge to add my own bits and bobs to the magazine, because it felt like there was a lot of blank space. And that’s probably me overthinking it, and overdoing it, but I did it anyways! No one could stop me because this was my project lol

Something I really sat down with and contemplated for a long time was the colour palette. I knew from the start of the project that I wanted to make issue five more exciting with different coloured pages, and hone in on what Dwelling looks like to be pleasurable to look at and read. I was very inspired by Frankie magazine, I mean, who isn’t, it’s gorgeous. But I needed to add my own little details to it.

I have pages of oil pastel drawings, some that definitely didn’t make it, but helped, in my opinion, with filling in the gaps and the message that ‘this is a handmade art magazine’!

A new subcription is here!

There has been a request for a 6-month up front subscription, so I have created a one-payment subscription of $14.00. You can find this by heading to the main Dwelling page, and subscribing to the 6-month plan. You may need to unsubscribe to your current $2.50/month plan for it to work!
